Advantages of ATV Wheel
Safety
The surface of atv wheel is a layer of high-quality rubber, inflated with increased tension on the exterior, forming a certain pressure on the inner surface, improving the self-sealing ability of the breach, once punctured, unlike ordinary car tires like gas in an instant all drainage, will last a certain amount of time, to protect the safety of high-speed driving.
Save money
Atv wheel rims are larger in diameter than ordinary rims, and will not be affected by the heat of the brake drum while driving. Because there is no inner tube and liner belt, the tire and wheel rim sealed as one, in the vehicle at high speed, the high temperature generated by the tire and road friction, in the internal (hot air) through the steel rim direct heat dissipation quickly reduce tire temperature, thereby extending the service life of the tire.
Low fuel consumption
Atv wheel in the metric unit for flat tires, tire crown angle is zero, so the adhesion is strong. It can keep better driving stability and less friction, which is good for shock absorption and speed improvement. The positioning of the belt ply is high, the radial runout of the wheel is small and the resistance is low.
Ease of operation
Atv wheel have relatively simple controls that make them easy to operate, and most beginner-friendly models have automatic transmissions. Dirt bikes are substantially more complex and require the rider to learn more about balance and shifting gears.

What Design Features Make ATV Wheel Suitable to Different Surfaces
Tread pattern
On a tire with a directional tread (meant to roll in only one direction), side-to-side grooves on both sides of the tire point toward the centre, creating a ‘v’ shape. These grooves pump water through the tread so the tire can maintain contact with the road to help resist hydroplaning. If you’re hitting the mud bogs or even wet conditions, you’ll appreciate having a directional tread pattern.
Lugs
These are the blocks on the tread that bite into the surface for grip and traction. The ‘luggier’ (thicker, deeper) the lugs, the better the atv wheel is to cut through slick surfaces like mud. Mud tires have the most aggressive lugs among the types of atv wheel. Sometimes atv wheel will also have lugs that wrap around the shoulder of the tire for extra bite through turns in slippery conditions.
Other tread patterns, like those of motocross atv wheel, have smaller lugs placed in asymmetrical patterns to improve traction in soft loam. The lugs on off-road tires tend to be deep but short for grip across off-road surfaces, from dirt to gravel.
Ply rating
Ply rating tells you how strong a tire is and indicates higher inflation pressure capabilities for greater load capacity. Atv wheel usually have a ply rating ranging from 2 to 6-ply. If you’re using your four-wheeler for hauling, the 6-ply is probably the best atv wheel choice for you.
Let’s take a closer look at how different types of atv wheel are designed and what to look for when you’re on the hunt for just the right atv wheel for you.
How to Choose the Right ATV Wheel

Tire construction
Atv wheel are generally constructed either as bias-ply or radial structure. Both constructions have their own advantages and disadvantages, and deciding between the two comes down to your personal preferences and riding style.
Bias-ply tires
Each ply is laid at a bias (diagonal) from bead to bead, with the next ply being laid over the top in the opposite direction, which creates a crisscross pattern. Bias-ply atv wheel tend to be more durable than radials. Their sidewalls are very tough and puncture resistant. Bias-ply tires also seem to get better traction because of their stiff construction. Bias-ply tires work well in side-hill riding because the sidewalls flex very little and resist rolling. This makes them popular choice for riders who like to ride in very rough terrain. On the downside, the stiff construction makes for a rougher ride compared to radials and bias-ply tires tend to heat up faster as well.
Ply rating
- Ply rating of a bias-ply tire is the actual number of plies that are bonded together to construct the carcass of the tire. With the advancement in the materials and technologies used to construct a tire, advanced manufacturers now do not need to use as many plies as before. Because of this, atv manufacturers are giving a ply rating which determines relative puncture resistance of a tire rather than actual number of plies. A modern 6-ply tire might not actually be 6-plies, but rather only 2 or 3 plies.
- Generally speaking: The more plies or the higher ply rating in the construction of a tire, the higher resistance to tear and puncture the tire has. But number of plies also increases weight of a tire and roughness of the ride. Most commonly used atv tires are 4-ply tires. Atv manufacturers often deliver only 2-ply tires as oem tires that are quite prone to puncture. On the other hand 2-ply tires are good choice for sport atvs for racing on well prepared tracks where is no big danger of puncture and where 2-ply tires deliver responsive handling, excellent feedback and low unsprung weight.
- Heavy atvs, side-by-sides and utvs often use 6- or 8-ply tires because of their excellent puncture resistance.
Radial tires
- Radial tires are constructed by laying plies perpendicular (90 degrees) to the direction of rotation. The plies run from bead to bead, over the face and down the sidewall of the tire, which creates a wrapping effect. Some tires are then finished off with steel or kevlar belt that helps to stabilize the tire and reduce wear. Radial tires have thinner sidewalls that are more flexible and allow for more plush ride compared to bias-ply tires. Some manufacturers including itp are reinforcing also the sidewalls by special materials such as kevlar.
- Radial atv wheel are more modern, they provide smoother ride and the tread doesn´t wear as quickly as it would on bias ply tires. The softer sidewalls act as a "spring" helping to absorb the bumps. Radial atv wheel also allow the tire to flex on corners, which keeps more of the tread on the riding surface and results in more traction. Radial tires distribute the weight of the machine very evenly throughout the tread, which generates very low heat and helps prolong the life of the tire. Though the thinner sidewalls provide a smoother ride, they also make the tire more susceptible to punctures. Radial atv wheel cannot be underpressured because they rely on the air inside to ride on, whereas bias-ply tires can run on low pressure due to their thick sidewalls. Radial atv tires also offer less damage to the ground.
Tire profile - round vs flat
Most atv riders do not care whether their atv wheel are round or flat. Anyway if you want the best performing tire for your type of terrain and riding style, the shape of the tire should be considered. As a general rule round tires work best in soft terrains and flat tires in medium to hard-packed terrains. Utility and all-purpose atv's usually benefit from round tires, while sport and racing atvs benefit from flat tires (rear wheels).
Is ATV Wheel Suitable for Use in Snow
Atv wheels are very suitable for use in snow. This type of tire is designed specifically for handling various complex terrains, and snow is just one of them.
Firstly, atv wheels typically have anti slip tread designs, including deep grooves and complex patterns, which help provide better traction and grip in snow, preventing the vehicle from slipping. On snowy or icy roads, this design ensures a more stable and safe driving performance for the vehicle.
Secondly, atv wheels are generally made of high-quality rubber materials, which can maintain good elasticity and toughness at low temperatures, ensuring that the tires can work normally in snow and will not harden or be damaged due to low temperatures.
In addition, due to the fact that atvs themselves are heavy and high-throughput vehicles, equipped with suitable atv wheels, they can easily drive even on deep snow, and even engage in off-road activities.
Therefore, if a vehicle needs to be used in snow, atv with dedicated atv wheels is a very suitable choice. However, in order to ensure safety and optimal performance, it is recommended to choose products of reliable quality when purchasing and using, and to conduct regular maintenance checks.
Mechanical atv wheel are a type of tire designed specifically for use on all terrain vehicles . This type of tire has multiple characteristics to meet the driving needs of atvs on various terrains.
Firstly, atv wheel are fully vacuum large patterned tires, and the tread pattern is usually designed as an independent eight shaped deepening pattern. This design not only has good mud removal effect, but also good grip. In addition, the design of the tire crown is relatively flat, which is conducive to improving traction. These characteristics enable atv wheel to perform well on complex terrains such as gravel roads, fine gravel roads, and soft sand or muddy slopes.
Secondly, the specifications of atv wheel are usually 200/90-fz15, with a wider width. This design can increase the contact area with the ground, improve the stability and passability of the vehicle. At the same time, atv wheel are also suitable for some mechanical equipment, such as pesticide sprayers, chopping machines, farmer trailers, etc.
Furthermore, as an important component of automobiles, atv wheel play a major role in supporting the entire weight of the vehicle, bearing the load of the vehicle, and transmitting forces and moments in other directions; to transmit torque for traction and braking, ensuring good adhesion between the wheels and the road surface, in order to improve the power, braking, and passability of the vehicle; together with the car suspension, it mitigates the impact on the car during driving and attenuates the resulting vibration; to prevent severe vibration and early damage to automotive components, adapt to the high-speed performance of the vehicle and reduce noise during driving, ensuring safety, handling stability, comfort, and energy efficiency during driving.
Mechanical atv wheel are specialized tires suitable for various complex terrains, with excellent traction, stability, and passability. They are essential components for atv vehicles and some mechanical equipment. However, when using this type of tire, it is also necessary to pay attention to regular inspections and maintenance to ensure its performance and safety.
ATV Wheels are an Indispensable Component of All Terrain Vehicles
Atv wheels are tires designed specifically for all terrain vehicles (atvs). These tires must be able to adapt to various complex and changing terrains, such as mud, sand, snow, mountains, etc., while maintaining good stability and traction.
Atv wheels are usually made of high-quality rubber materials to ensure excellent durability and reliability under various conditions. In addition, their tread design typically features deep grooves and anti slip patterns to provide excellent drainage performance and grip.
According to different uses and requirements, atv wheels may have different sizes, tread designs, and load-bearing capacity. For example, some atv wheels may focus more on stability during high-speed driving, while others may focus more on climbing ability on rough terrain.
Overall, atv wheels are an indispensable component of all terrain vehicles, and their performance and quality directly affect the vehicle's handling, safety, and ride comfort. Therefore, when choosing atv wheels, car owners should choose the most suitable tire based on their own needs and driving habits.
In addition, besides the tire itself, the hub of the atv wheel is also an important part. The material and design of the wheel hub can also affect the performance and safety of the vehicle. Some high-end atv wheels may use aluminum alloy wheels to reduce weight and improve heat dissipation performance.
When purchasing atv wheels, it is recommended that car owners choose well-known brands and products with guaranteed quality to ensure driving safety and obtain the best driving experience. At the same time, regular inspection and maintenance of tires are also important measures to maintain their performance and extend their service life.
