Construction of Solid Tires
Solid wheel, which are also called airless tires, are manufactured using a few different methods. Solid wheel can be manufactured on a frame or metal wheel structure which will then be mounted on a specific vehicle. Solid wheel can also be made to fit on rims that are manufactured to support pneumatic tires.
Solid wheel differ in two ways. The first is the rubber compounds they're made with, and the second is the purposes they're made for. Solid wheel manufacturing results in tires that are incredibly hard and durable, bearing a slick tread design. Solid wheel are also pliable and capable of performance at high speeds. These tires can even possess modern tread design and capability.
Unlike the curing process of a pneumatic tire, solid wheel are rolled in thin layers of rubber onto a metal frame mount and pressed through a hydraulic system. This solidifies the form and makes the rubber hold. These layers are added using a wheel. With every full rotation of a wheel turn, the process adds another layer. The thickness of these layers varies depending on the application of the tire.
Once the tire is properly sized, it will be put into a mold and heated, allowing the rubber to vulcanize. This mold will also serve as the instrument that puts the tread on the solid tire. For solid wheel installed on rims that can accommodate pneumatic tires, a special hydraulic mounting press is required to put the tire on the wheel.
Types of Solid Tire Patterns
Longitudinal pattern
Striped pattern along the circumferential direction of the tread. It is characterized by good driving stability and low noise, but it is inferior to the transverse pattern in terms of traction and braking. Mainly used for driven wheels and scissor lift tires of small-scale field transportation vehicles. If indoor operation, most of them will use solid tires no marks.
Non-patterned tires, also known as smooth tires
The tread of the tire is completely smooth without any stripes or grooves. It is characterized by low rolling resistance and steering resistance, excellent tear resistance and cutting resistance, but its disadvantage is poor wet skid resistance, and its traction and braking properties are not as good as longitudinal and transverse patterns, especially on wet and slippery roads.
Lateral pattern
The pattern on the tread along the axial direction or with a small angle to the axial direction. The characteristics of this pattern are the best traction and braking performance, but the disadvantage is that the driving noise is loud, and the speed will be bumpy under load.
There are several ways that solid tires can be manufactured. In the first, a metal wheel holder is placed into a mold. Liquid rubber, or liquid polyurethane, is poured into the mold and dries hard around the metal wheel. Another process uses a rolling metal wheel with adhesive attached to it. The sticky surface is placed against a rubber sheet, and the wheel is rolled, collecting layers of rubber as it moves until enough material accumulates to form a full tire. The tire is then installed onto the vehicle using a specialized press machine.
Solid pneumatic tires are a type of solid tires with a paradoxical name. In reality, these tires are not pneumatic at all, but are simply shaped and constructed similarly to air-filled tires, with layers of rubber and metal ply that give it some of the spring that pneumatic tires are known for. The major advantage of solid pneumatic tires is that they do not require a press to install.
Solid pneumatic tires can be used on a variety of industrial machines. Light industrial machines like forklifts find uses for them outdoors, where the springy nature of the tires makes them a better fit for areas with a chance of rollover. Backhoes and similar construction vehicles have also found them a suitable fit on construction sites, where the puncture of pneumatic tires is probable.
The rims of solid wheel and the corresponding pneumatic tyres are interchangeable. But the loading and unloading of the solid wheel rims need to be accomplished with the aid of the press.
Inspection of tyre and wheel rim. First of all, to check the suitability of the tyre and rim, that is to say whether the tyre specifications and models are the same as those of the rims.
In order to ensure that the tyres can be installed in place, to reduce friction between the wheel and rim, when installing, the hub of the tyre and the outer surface of the rim need to be sprayed and coated with lubricant.
The tyres must be concentric when loaded into the car.

Precautions of Solid Wheel
Solid tires are industrial tires for off-road vehicles, mainly consist with forklift solid tires, scissor lift tires, wheel loader tires, port tires and boarding bridge tires. Solid tires cannot be used for road transportation. Overload, overspeed, long-distance, and long-term continuous operation are strictly prohibited.
The tires should be assembled on qualified rims of the specified model and size. For example, linde tires are nose tires, which are quick-loading forklift tires and can only be installed on special rims without lock rings.
The tire with the rim installed should ensure that the tire and the rim are concentric. When installing on the vehicle, the tire must be perpendicular to the axis.
The solid tires on any axis should be manufactured by the same solid tire factory, of the same specifications and with matching wear. It is not allowed to mix solid tires and pneumatic tires or solid tires with different degrees of wear to avoid uneven force. Cause tire, vehicle, personal accident.
When replacing solid tires, all tires on any one axle should be replaced together.
Ordinary solid tires should try to avoid contact with oil and corrosive chemicals, and the inclusions between the patterns should be removed in time.
The maximum speed of forklift solid tires shall not be higher than 25km/hr, and the solid tires of other industrial vehicles shall be lower than 16km/hr.
Due to the poor heat dissipation of solid tires, in order to prevent the tires from being damaged due to excessive heat generation, continuous use should be avoided, and the maximum distance of each stroke during driving should not exceed 2km. In summer, the temperature of continuous driving is too high, it should be used intermittently, or necessary cooling measures should be taken.
Correct storage placement
Solid tires should be kept away from sunlight, oils, acids, flammable materials and chemical corrosion products. All tires should be stored in a cool, dry and dark room.
Prevention of abnormal wear and tear
(1) Tire tread depth - Regularly checking the tread on all four of your tires can help diagnose potential problems.
(2) Tire temperature - Regularly check in the high-temperature & low-temperature environments.
(3) Digging the stone - It is necessary to remove the metal sheets, glass and gravel between the embedded treads in time.
(4) Digging the small hole - Check the nails, cuts, bulges and cracks of the tires in time, and fill them timely.
Pull up the maintenance quality of wheel assembly
Check and calibrate the wheel alignment in time, check whether the rim is cracked, deformed and obviously corroded. If it is, repair or replace it with high quality rim to ensure that the rim matches the tire; adjust the hub bearing, tie rod ball joint, and main pin bushing clearance to the design value; keep the balance of the solid tire, if it is not balanced, the wheel should be tested for dynamic balance;
Improve driving skills
When starting, we should feather the accelerator pedal to start smoothly, and the maximum speed should not exceed the speed limit of the tire level during driving. Emergency acceleration, sudden braking and sudden steering should be avoided during driving.
